Deri Reed is a seasoned food editor based in New York City with a copyeditor’s eye for detail, project manager’s organizational skills, and professional editor’s diplomacy. She has extensive experience both editing and copyediting cookbooks and a solid understanding—start to finish—of what is required to produce an outstanding cookbook.
She recently copyedited the award-winning Zahav by Michael Solomonov, and The Del Posto Cookbook by Mark Lardner.
In addition to her work with major publishers, Deri enjoys working with independent authors, helping shape cookbooks and memoirs, editing recipes, and copyediting.

Background: Prior to focusing on cookbook editing in the mid-2000s, Deri spent more than a decade working on websites for International Masters Publishers, including writing and editing cooking newsletters and articles, editing recipes, and answering cooking questions (as Grandma Betty) for numerous IMP websites. She also edited recipes for Molly O’Neill’s website, One Big Table; and wrote and edited articles and edited recipes for Hearst’s print magazine, Mr. Food’s Easy Cooking.
Deri started her editorial career as an editor at Dell Puzzle Magazines.

Deri is a long-standing member of both the Editorial Freelancers Association and the New York Women’s Culinary Alliance, and served on the Executive Board of the NYWCA from 2014 to 2018. She recently became a member of the New York City chapter of Les Dames d’Escoffier.
